The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics and Computer Science is authorised to award a degree of doctor of technical sciences in the discipline of electrical engineering.
Faculty Main Research Interests
Automatics and Robotics: analysis, modelling, simulation and optimisation of dynamic systems and control systems; expert systems, identification and estimation of parameters of controlled objects; theory of control and systems; non-linear and non-stationary system control (adaptive control, control via open-loop adaptation); design of control systems based on PLC, micro-controllers, signal processors and microcomputers; design of measurement systems; modelling and control of electric drives; process monitoring systems; real-time industrial applications; computer-aided management systems, computer control systems, measurement and control systems in electric heating engineering and power engineering
Electrical Engineering and Electrical Power Engineering: microprocessor, DSP, converter, PLC applications to electrical machines control, computer analysis of electric powers and of harmonic contents in electrical machines supply systems, wattless power compensation, simulation and design of power electronics systems, computer modelling of electromechanical systems, design of intelligent electrical systems, electromagnetic field analysis with the finite element method; analysis of magnetic fields and forces in a magnetic separator gap; electromagnetic fields determination with the reluctance network method; identification and diagnostics of electrical machines; optimisation of operating conditions of electrical machines powered by converter systems; examination and analysis of electrical machines operating conditions; analysis of lighting systems operation; design of lighting systems; analysis of reliability of electric power transmission systems; investigations of applications of modern programmable regulators to individual power systems; systems of power control and monitoring based on programmed regulators; renewable energy sources; management and optimisation of power systems.
Power Electronics: investigations of hybrid traction drives with the use of brushless DC and AC motors with permanent magnets; simulation and laboratory investigations of AC/DC transformers with sinusoidal mains current consumption and with an enhanced power factor; methods of analysis and laboratory investigations of high frequency resonant systems.
Automotive Electrical Engineering: examinations of automotive electrical and electronic subsystems with respect to technical parameters, functionality features and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC); technical diagnostics, mathematical models of artificial neural networks and fuzzy sets and their applications to diagnostics of electrical and electronic installations of an automotive vehicle.
Metrology: analysis and design of measurement systems, parametric and structural optimisation of measurement systems, intelligent converters and measuring instruments; transformation methods for representation of fast-changing physical quantities; development of intelligent converters and measuring instruments with the use of DSP and measuring single-chip microcontrollers; issues of electrical weighing of objects in motion and dynamic weighing; single- and multi-mode fibre optics applications to measurement techniques; application of compensation methods to measurement systems.
Computer Science: rapid prototyping of algorithms and systems; parallel processing; computer systems architecture; dispersed systems and computer networks; multimedia techniques; artificial intelligence methods; decision support computer systems; systems using artificial neural networks, fuzzy set theories and genetic algorithms, modern programming methods.
Telecommunications and Electronics: signal and image digital processing; data compression; fibre optics telecommunications; fibre optics applications, development of algorithms for fast section-linear HPL transforms; methods of transformational image compression, artificial intelligence methods, decision support computer systems, systems using artificial neural networks, fuzzy set theories and genetic algorithms, adaptive methods for image digital processing; analysis of broadband data transmission networks; methods of image contour extraction; digital filtering; methods for digital systems design; signal microprocessor applications; new materials for optoelectronics and telecommunications.
